Rare Screening of US documentary film “Miss Representation”

The Minister for Women’s Interests, the Department for Communities in WA and the Women’s Advisory Council are hosting a rare screening of the US documentary Miss Representation followed by a panel discussion about the movie.

When: Thursday 11th October, 4.00pm. Refreshments at 4.00pm, movie from 4.30pm-6.00pm and panel discussion from 6.00pm–6.30pm
Where: Studio Underground Theatre, State Theatre Centre, Roe Street, Northbridge
Why: To mark the United Nations’ inaugural International Day of the Girl Child

The film Miss Representation is an educational resource by US documentary maker Jennifer Siebel Newsom. It is aimed primarily at young women under the age of 18, but is also suitable for adult audiences as it features identities Jane Fonda, Condoleeza Rice, Geena Davis, Gloria Steinem and comedian Margaret Cho.

It explores how the underrepresentation of women in the media has had a direct impact on the representation of women in positions of power in the US, particularly in government and business.
